Lent Begins on Wednesday

Posted in My Year Experiment 2011-2012 at 1:10 am by Vanessa

This past week, I taught my last adaptive ski lesson, filed my tax return, and started taking Argentine tango classes.  Still, even with all these endings/beginnings, my brain has been having difficulty making sense of the passage of time.  The days seem to simultaneously crawl, but also speed ahead of me.  And so, I’m excited to remember that LENT begins this Wednesday!  I love Lent, because it rises out of the calendar during a period of uneventfulness, and helps me focus on hope for the future and thankfulness for the past.

This year, I would like to pray – with more faith than I have been – for my 2012 Prayers, in the style of my old church’s 40 Days of Faith / Leap of Faith.  I would also like to fast, in some way, and prepare my heart for the good news of Easter, in the traditional sense of Lent.  Hmm, I’ll pray and figure out the details by Wednesday.

What are your plans for Lent?

Hi Vanessa! I’m also really excited to try to pray in the style of the Leap of Faith, also from afar for the first time in a while. I haven’t decided what to pray for yet, but it will be good to wait on God and prepare for Easter.

For the first time in a number of years I feel motivated to observe a Lenten fast. I’ll be swearing off meat, pork, and poultry. I’ll also be taking a break from chocolate. Ouch! Tue idea is to both cleanse and create space before the Creator. Lots of space.

Reading Psalms when I wake up and before going to bed (
I remembered one of the 40 days of Faith campaigns at the Vineyard and felt in my heart I wasnt really prepared for fasting, so decided to add more to my prayer life…) VJ I hope you have a fantastic Lent season and remember that we are blessed from the time in Boston with friends from all over the world! Come visit me in Brazil someday! Hugs, Margareth
